Who do you trust?

Who do you trust?

The first time dishonesty blindsided me was over a business deal with Pogs. At the height of the fad, I was around ten years old. My favorite Pog was one that had, printed on the front, the character Death riding a tricycle singing the phase “A tisket, a tasket, a green and dead basket” or some other pearl of wisdom. That Pog alone was going...

Typical Copyright Page

The hard part is writing a book, but before publishing there are many pieces that still need to be included before you can continue.  One of those is the copyright page.  Below I’ve presented my typical copyright page you cut and paste and some other considerations while creating/adapting your own. My page looks something like this: Copyright © 2013 Ethan Cobb All rights reserved. No part of this book may be reproduced or transmitted in any form or by any means, electronic, mechanical, photocopying, recording, or otherwise, without...

Fractured: Chapter 5

I am posting a chapter a week of the first book I completed as I revise and edit. For the beginning of the book, click here. Chapter Five: Amygdala – A part of the brain’s limbic system that attaches emotional significance to information and mediates both defensive and aggressive behavior.   The man was invisible, or nearly so. He shifted in the chair. Sergio gave up trying to see him. Technical and complicated problems about his physical structure made him camouflage with his surroundings. Special cells underneath a...

Fractured: Chapter 4

I am posting a chapter a week of the first book I completed as I revise and edit. For the beginning of the book, click here.   Chapter Four: Assimilation – Incorporating objects, experiences, or information into existing schemas.   “You meet a werewolf and don’t even take time to see what she’s offering?” asked Tammy. Sergio let his fingers glide along the edge of the manila envelope. He was not sure how far they had walked, but his feet were beginning to hurt. He was just happy he was out in public; with many would be...

Fractured: Chapter 3

I am posting a chapter a week of the first book I completed as I revise and edit. For the beginning of the book, click here.     Chapter Three: Cognitive Dissonance – The realization of contradictions in one’s own attitudes and behaviors.   “Bet for when he will show?” asked Diana. “If I know the prodigy at all he’ll be her in under ten minutes,” said Sarah. “The prodigy,” snorted Diana. She pulled out a second piece of gum and added it to the wad she was already chewing. “Fine, ten minutes, and you...

Fractured: Chapter 2

Chapter Two: Analysis of Variance – An inferential statistical procedure used to test whether or not the means of two or more sets of data are equal to each other.   “Maybe I am insane,” muttered Sergio. The money bunched in his pocket, and he kept a protective hand over it to prevent any cash escaping. He grabbed his coat off the hat rack and, stopping, walked back to the desk to pick up the phone.  The dial tone buzzed as the catch released. “Odd that the phone starts working the moment Blaze leaves,” he muttered....
